Payments, split payments, VAT & withholding
How one payment, a split payment, credit, VAT and withholding work in the POS, on orders and on receipts.
Every sale has a total and one or more payments. Whatever is not paid becomes a customer debt. This page explains each case.
One payment#
In the POS cart choose One payment, then Cash, Card, Bank transfer, Credit sale or PayPal. Credit sale means the customer pays later, so you must pick a customer.
Split payment (two or more methods)#
Customers often pay part in cash and part by card. Choose Split payment in the POS cart. You see a row for Cash, Card, Bank transfer and Other, each with its own amount box.
- 1
Press “Half cash · half card”
It fills half the total in cash and the other half on card. You can also type any amounts yourself.
- 2
Watch the progress bar
Paid and Left are always on screen. When the amounts add up to the total it shows Fully paid.
- 3
Not everything paid?
If part is not paid, tick Put the rest on credit (this needs a customer). The unpaid part becomes that customer's debt.
- 4
Complete the sale
The order is saved with each payment line. It shows as paid, or partly paid with the remainder owed.
Rules the system enforces: the payments can never add up to more than the total, and a remainder on credit needs a customer.
Partly paid orders and debts#
- A partly paid order has status Partially paid. The unpaid amount is added to the customer's debt.
- Cancelling or deleting the order removes that debt again.
- To collect later use Expenses › Customer debts › Edit, enter an amount per order (Half or Full) and press Process payment. Payments settle the oldest orders first.
VAT#
Prices in Sukbay include VAT (15% by default; the POS lets you apply it or not). The receipt shows the price without VAT, the VAT amount and the grand total including VAT, so the customer can see the split.
Withholding#
Some customers (for example companies) withhold a percentage of the sale when paying. In the POS tick Withholding, pick or type the percentage (3% is the default) and the amount is deducted from what the customer pays. The order card and the order details page then show a Withholding Tax line, and analytics counts withholding separately.
Receipts#
- The receipt lists each item with its price without VAT, the sold price, quantity and line total, then subtotal, VAT and grand total.
- It also carries your shop name, address and TIN, and the amount written in words.
- Every order has a permanent link and QR code, so you can share a clean receipt page.
Marking an order paid#
Open the order and press Mark as paid. Marking a credit order paid also settles that customer's debt for it. For online orders, check the customer's screenshot (Telebirr or bank) first.
Deleting an order#
Delete order asks why (pick a reason or write one). Stock goes back to the batches, debts for that order are removed, and for an online order the shopper gets a notification with your reason.
